This wonderful antique Georgian Mourning piece showcases an exquisite hand painted Sepia miniature of a lady playing a classical Greek string instrument named a Lyre. The painting displays intricate detail and is kept safe behind a smooth glass dome haloed by Pearls.
Sepia paintings were often worn as a souvenir to remember a loved one and usually depicted a sorrowful image painted in sepia colours. The pieces were sometimes accompanied by seed Pearls which represented tears.
The Marquise shaped piece is backed in 18ct Gold and looks to have been converted from either a brooch or locket. It is a true work of art and could be converted once more to create an impressive ring or pendant.
