A large and very impressive antique Victorian Silver locket in the Aesthetic Revival style, beautifully and freely hand engraved with Wild Roses (for LOVE) to the frontispiece. Lovely quality and a piece which was very fashionable in her day, there is a great symbolism in the whole and a wealth of aspects to enjoy.
For instance the slightly mattified background to the floral arrangement which makes it stand out... and the applied flowers and leaves adding dimension and drama to the design. With a full hallmark applied at the Birmingham Assay Office in 1881 alongside stamps for the makers: Robinson & McKewan (William Robinson & Arthur George McKewan) of Hockley Street in Birmingham's famous jewellery quarter.
It measures 3cm by 4cm, opens and closes neatly and retains both of the original frames to secure your precious photographs.
